After our last Europe trip, having nine days to see just one city felt like a luxury. Yvana and I finally went on a trip to Paris in early September this year and it was a much-needed break from regular life to eat some amazing food, see some of the most famous pieces of art in the world, and spend time together abroad. Ever since I moved to the East Coast, spontaneous visits to each other's city have been harder to coordinate (gotta love those six-hour flights, layovers, and the time zone difference) and we no longer have the same holiday schedule to be at home in Seattle at the same time. Might as well just meet up in another continent altogether, right?
Paris is one of those cities everyone seems to have an opinion about, and as the second-most visited city in the world, it was no surprise that the people I talked to had such polar opposite experiences. Ultimately, as with any destination, your experience with a place is what you make of it. I personally loved it and still have a long list of things I want to do/see/eat the next time I'm back.
My only regret was not being able to share as many photos as I would have liked. As fate would have it, my Contax film camera I've been shooting with for the last three years gave out on my very last day in Guatemala this summer while I was climbing ruins at Tikal. While I'm grateful I had nearly two full rolls from the rest of that trip, I only had about a month in between trips to buy and test a new camera. Sadly, none of the photos I shot with my new Canon SLR in Paris turned out due to egregious light leaks. The few film photos I have here are from my Olympus point-and-shoot, or were shot by Yvana on her new (old) film camera that I got her for her birthday!
For a list of what I did (and more importantly, ate), check out my map/list of Paris recommendations.
xoxo, vivian
